Master Mould and Copy Room

The concept of the exhibition, specially designed for the capital Beijing, touches on one of the most sensitive ideological tensions between China and the West. Indeed, both traditions have diametrically opposed interpretations of the notion of the “original” (also in the arts) and the value of the COPY of that original. However, our project had the ambition to demonstrate that the West does not shy away from copying (Breughel) and that the Western Avant-garde has long since adopted copying as a possible strategy. This resulted in a new page of art history. Several lines of thought have already been launched to bring the project to Belgium in a Western version.
