Hans De Wolf
Hans De Wolf (1961) was an art historian mainly focused on modern and contemporary art, philosophy, and aesthetics. He studied at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Brussels (BE) and Columbia University in New York (US). In 2002, he obtained his PhD degree for an innovative interpretation of Marcel Duchamp’s La mariée mise à nu par ses célibataires même. Since 1998, De Wolf has been involved in the development and realization of various contemporary art exhibitions in the Neue Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (DE). At the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee he has been giving theoretical art seminars since 2002, before being appointed in 2004 as Professor of Art History and Aesthetics at the VUB. That same year he was also invited to become a senior consultant to the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels (BE). In 2005, he was involved in the creation of an institutional model for the implementation of artistic research named “The Platform.” Upon invitation of the Brussels Regional Government, De Wolf was mandated to create an exhibition for the Expo 2010 in Shanghai (CN). This was the start of his initiative in Cultural Diplomacy, that developed its particular methodology of joining the academical with the cultural dimension throughout the national and international projects that followed. These include: Master Mould and Copy Room, Beijing (CN) in 2014; Venice Biennale, Venice (IT); The Elephants: Chinese Utopias Revisited, Brussels (BE); and Forme e Antiforme, Milan (IT) in 2015; Gemischte Gefühle, Berlin (DE), in 2017; Third Beijing Photo Biennial, Beijing (CN), in 2018; JRSLM, Brussels (BE), in 2019; and the First Jinan Biennial, Jinan (CN); and PARADISE PROJECTS, Brussels (BE) in 2021.
